Studio City Dental Center provides solutions for all dental problems including periodontal disease. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease or gingivitis, is a serious issue that definitely requires professional treatment in order to properly be addressed. Depending on the severity of the gum disease, there are several surgical and non-surgical treatments that can be administered to treat this issue.
In cases that are not severe, a thorough professional cleaning which we call scaling and root planing can be carried out to remove all plaque and tartar in and around the gum line of the teeth. In this procedure, the patient is locally anesthetized and all plaque and tartar is removed below the gum line. The rough part of the tooth that was previously covered in plaque is then smoothed out to create a bacteria free environment for the gum to re-attach. This procedure will require two or more visits depending on severity of the disease.
For severe cases of gingivitis, a multitude of surgical options exist. Some of these options manipulate the gums in order to clean out plaque, while others target bones or regenerative tissues. The most common surgical treatments for gingivitis are bone grafts, flap surgery (also known as pocket reduction surgery), bone surgery, guided tissue regeneration, and soft tissue grafts. These cases are referred to our reputable Periodontist that we work with and then maintained in our office.
