COSMETIC DENTAL/TOOTH IMPLANTS

Missing teeth can pose a serious problem for many reasons. In addition to destroying the beauty of a smile, having missing teeth can also impede tasks such as speaking and eating. Furthermore, missing teeth can also cause the remaining teeth to shift and become misaligned. Fortunately, dental implant, which is a part of cosmetic dentistry, can be the solution to this problem.

Patients suffering from tooth loss due to decay, disease, injury, or any other condition should strongly consider getting dental implants. Implant dentistry provides patients with a method of dental restoration that is both desirable and effective. A dental implant is a device that serves as an anchor for artificial teeth and other dental prostheses. Dental implants are most commonly made of titanium. These implants are inserted within the bone of the jaw, and integrate within the structure of the bone.

The implementation of dental implants is a two step process. The first step is an operation in which the titanium implant is inserted into the jawbone. The patient then undergoes a healing process that takes four to six months. During this time, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone until it is firmly secured. This process is called osseointegration. After the healing is complete, a second procedure takes places in which an artificial tooth is attached to the implant.

There are many advantages to getting dental implants. Once dental implants have been firmly placed and the surrounding areas have healed, they are completely permanent. To the wearer, dental implants will also feel natural. Even better, dental implants look absolutely natural, as well. The insertion of dental implants also has the effect of catalyzing additional bone growth in the area surrounding the implant. This growth contributes to strengthening the entire structure of the jaw bone. The restorations that are attached to dental implants also remain fixed in place, which helps prevent other teeth from shifting and contributes to healthy dental alignment.
